When a Seedance face reference is rejected, check the asset, generation route and account access. Original avatars, your own likeness and commercial model footage need different production decisions. This guide explains three routes and the questions to ask before proceeding.
Your reference image is ready and the storyboard is written. Then generation stops with a message suggesting the image contains a real person. For creators producing character videos or digital presenters, Seedance face restrictions can become the first production hurdle.
Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance’s next-generation joint audio-video model, with longer single-generation video, reference control and editing capabilities. Which portrait references a particular service accepts is a separate question to check. Official Seedance 2.5 overview
01 / UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE
Why does Seedance restrict face references?
BytePlus documents restrictions on directly uploaded references containing real human faces. Its portrait guidance also describes routes involving trusted model outputs, preset digital characters and authorized real-person assets. Availability depends on the service, model and account. Portrait guidance · Generation API documentation
The virtual portrait library describes safeguards addressing deepfake and infringement risks, including asset review and conditions concerning rights and resemblance to real people. An image being AI-generated does not by itself establish that a particular workflow accepts it. Virtual portrait library
Save the complete error message before changing anything. Unsupported portrait input, file requirements, missing access and a processing queue need different responses. Rewriting a prompt may leave an asset-access problem unresolved.
02 / CHOOSE A ROUTE
Start with the video you need
| Your goal | Where to start | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Original character or virtual presenter | AI Media Agent’s Avatar mode | Character-image requirements and selected model |
| A video using your own face | Ask about creator verification and authorized portrait access | Verification, consent and enabled account features |
| A commercial featuring a specific model | Discuss the brief with AI9 Studio | Portrait assets, intended use, visual control and delivery |
A talking product presenter and a campaign preserving a specific model’s appearance require different inputs. Define that requirement before spending time testing generation settings.
03 / ROUTE ONE
Try AI9app’s Avatar mode for virtual characters
For an original character or digital presenter, explore AI Media Agent. During our public-interface check, its Traditional Chinese mode menu included AI 虛擬人 and a character-image upload control. Labels can change with language and product updates.
Open AI Media Agent.
Review the current content mode. Sign in when the service requires it to generate or save work.
Select the avatar mode.
Choose AI 虛擬人 in the Chinese interface and inspect the character-image, model and format settings.
Prepare suitable character material.
Use assets you have permission to use, follow the input requirements and explain the character, camera movement and intended output.
Review one simple shot.
Start with one character and a plain background. Check facial consistency, lip sync and movement before building a sequence.
For a photo-and-script presenter, compare the separate Avatar Studio product description with your delivery needs.
It is an avatar-production entry point. We have not measured its acceptance rate or verified a claim that it disables Seedance face detection. Acceptance remains subject to the selected model, assets, permissions and review.
Goal: a virtual-presenter introduction for [brand/product]. Character: an original virtual character I have permission to use, with [appearance and clothing]. Framing: one character, medium shot, simple background, natural lighting. Movement: facing camera, a slight nod and restrained hand gestures. Use and aspect ratio: [website tutorial/social video], [16:9/9:16]. Process: confirm asset compatibility, then test one short shot. Review: character consistency, lip sync, hands and product details.
04 / ROUTE TWO
Join the AI Creator Programme and verify your own portrait
AI9app’s AI Creator Programme is open. If you need to use your own likeness, sign in, open User Settings and complete the KYC identity-verification process.
After KYC, you can apply for the AI Creator Programme so the platform can verify your identity and eligibility to use your own portrait. Then create with the models and generation modes available to your account. Use your own likeness and make sure the intended use and permissions suit the project.

Verification and portrait authorization still serve different purposes. BytePlus distinguishes liveness checks, same-person comparison and real-name verification, and limits the related image-review exemption to the individual user completing the specified checks. KYC does not transfer one person’s permissions to another. BytePlus verification rules
Before producing, confirm the programme status, available models and generation modes shown in your account. For a specific asset or model limitation, follow the in-product message or contact platform support.
Account: signed in to AI9app and KYC completed in User Settings. Programme: confirm the AI Creator Programme application or activation status. Portrait: use only my own likeness or material with explicit permission. Video: set [purpose], [aspect ratio], [publishing channel] and the selected Seedance model. Test: create one short shot and review consistency, lip sync and output quality. Record: if a restriction appears, save the model, mode and complete error message for support.
05 / ROUTE THREE
Discuss commercial production with AI9 Studio
Projects involving a specific model, brand style, continuity and formal deliverables benefit from a clear production plan. AI9 Studio advertises AI video production services; submit a brief to discuss a suitable approach. Studio service overview
Include the purpose, audience, duration, aspect ratio, publishing channels, character and product material, available portrait permissions, deadline and budget. For a specific person’s appearance, ask for an asset and feasibility review before agreeing the sample and delivery scope.
A useful production plan brings storyboarding, generation, character continuity, voice, editing and revisions together. Confirm the achievable result through samples and an agreed specification.
06 / PRACTICAL CHECKS
5 ways to reduce repeated failed submissions
- Record the complete error. Include the service, model, mode and time.
- Check the asset route. Direct uploads, avatar settings and authorized asset libraries may have different requirements.
- Test one simple shot. Confirm input compatibility before adding complex movement or sequences.
- Change one variable at a time. Track whether the asset, format or action caused a different result.
- Keep alternative shots ready. Product details, environments and motion graphics can progress while portrait access is clarified.
These steps help diagnose a project and control rework; they do not guarantee acceptance. Where a service says an asset is unsupported, obtain clarification before submitting it again.
07 / QUICK ANSWERS
Seedance face restrictions FAQ
Why might an AI-generated face be rejected?
How an asset was made does not establish whether the selected route accepts it. Check the model’s portrait requirements and ask the platform about the specific image and error. BytePlus also reviews virtual-library assets. Library requirements
Does Avatar mode guarantee a bypass?
We have no test evidence or official guarantee for that claim. It provides an avatar workflow; accepted assets and models depend on the account interface, service rules and review.
Does KYC allow me to use anyone’s face?
Confirm the particular verification and portrait permissions required. BytePlus’s rules tie relevant verification to an individual user and prohibit transferring that user’s review exemption to someone else. Verification rules
Should a brand generate in-house or commission production?
Test simple original-character clips in-house. For a specified likeness, multiple shots and formal delivery, discuss feasibility, samples and scope with a production team first.

Updated 23 October 2026. We checked official documentation and AI9app’s public interface; the Creator Programme and KYC flow in an AI9app account are shown under User Settings after sign-in.
